Nahshon, son of Amminadab; leader of the tribe of Judah during the wilderness period and ancestor in the line of David.
The personal name of the chieftain of Judah during the Exodus and wilderness wanderings. Nahshon son of Amminadab served as the tribal prince who presented the first dedication offering at the tabernacle (Num 7:12-17) and led Judah's camp on the march (Num 2:3; 10:14). He was also Aaron's brother-in-law through his sister Elisheba (Exod 6:23). The genealogies of Ruth 4:20-22 and 1 Chronicles 2:10-11 place him in the direct ancestral line from Judah to David, making him a key link in the messianic lineage. The Septuagint renders his name as Naassōn.

Senses
1. Nahshon (proper name) The proper name Nahshon (literally perhaps 'little serpent' or related to nachash), designating the prince of Judah during the wilderness period. He appears in the Priestly census and marching lists (Num 1:7; 2:3; 10:14), offered the inaugural tabernacle dedication gifts (Num 7:12-17), and was Aaron's brother-in-law (Exod 6:23). The genealogical texts of Ruth 4:20-22 and 1 Chronicles 2:10-11 anchor him as an ancestor of David. Spanish 'Naasón' reflects the Septuagint Naassōn, while French 'Nahshon' and German 'Nahshon' stay closer to the Hebrew. 10×
