An abbreviated form of the standard first-person plural pronoun anachnu ('we'). It appears sparingly in the Hebrew Bible, mainly in direct speech that carries emotional weight — Joseph's brothers protesting their innocence (Gen 42:11), Israel grumbling against Moses in the wilderness (Exod 16:7-8), the Reubenites pledging to cross the Jordan armed (Num 32:32), and the communal confession of Lamentations 3:42. Cognate forms appear in Arabic (nahnu), Ethiopic, and Aramaic.
