Nebo — Moabite city east of the Jordan and the mountain from which Moses viewed the Promised Land
Nebo (נְבוֹ) is a toponym referring both to a city in Moab and to the mountain summit from which Moses viewed the Promised Land. As a city, it was allotted to Reuben and rebuilt by them (Num 32:3, 38). As a mountain, God commands Moses, 'Go up to Mount Nebo' (Deut 32:49), and from its summit he sees the land before dying (Deut 34:1). The Israelites camped near it during the wilderness march (Num 33:47). Isaiah and Jeremiah mention the city in oracles against Moab (Isa 15:2; Jer 48:1, 22). All major languages transliterate directly.
