Ezekiel uses this rare word in his allegory of Jerusalem as an abandoned infant. Among the acts of care that were not performed for the newborn was washing for cleansing. BDB notes significant textual uncertainty about this word, with different ancient versions interpreting it variously. The Vulgate connects it to salvation, the Targum to cleansing. The basic sense seems to be some kind of purifying wash, part of the normal care that should have been given to a newborn but was neglected in Jerusalem's origins.
