2. the Destroyer (personified agent) — The Destroyer -- used with the article as a personified or semi-personified agent of divine wrath. In Ex 12:23 (also 2 Sam 24:16 LXX variant) 'the LORD will not allow the Destroyer (ha-mashchit) to enter your houses,' referring to the death angel at the Passover.
