Meraioth -- a priestly name borne by ancestors of Zadok and a postexilic priestly house.
A proper masculine name meaning perhaps 'rebellions' or 'bitter ones,' borne by at least two priestly figures in the Hebrew Bible. The primary Meraioth is a descendant of Aaron in the high-priestly genealogy, grandfather of Ahitub and great-grandfather of Zadok (1 Chr 5:32-33; 6:37; Ezra 7:3). A second appears as son of Ahitub and father of Zadok in 1 Chronicles 9:11 and Nehemiah 11:11. The name also designates a priestly house in Nehemiah 12:15, possibly an error for Meremoth. The Septuagint renders it variously as Maraioth, Marmoth, and Mareioth.

Senses
1. Merayot The proper name Meraioth (merayot), designating priestly individuals in Israel's genealogical and temple records. English consistently renders 'Merayot/Meraioth,' Spanish 'Meraiot/Merayot,' French 'Merajoth.' The name appears in the Aaronic high-priestly line in 1 Chronicles 6:6-7, 52 and Ezra 7:3, as an ancestor of Zadok; in 1 Chronicles 9:11 and Nehemiah 11:11 as part of the postexilic priestly leadership; and in Nehemiah 12:15 as head of a priestly house (possibly confused with Meremoth of Neh 12:3).
