rest, repose (abstract state); resting place (concrete location)

Senses
1. rest, repose (abstract state) The abstract state of rest, cessation from labor or wandering, or relief from distress. Used in Ruth 3:1 (Naomi seeking 'rest' for Ruth, meaning settled security in marriage), Isaiah 28:12 ('This is the rest'), and Genesis 8:9 (the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot). Arabic رَاحَة (raahah, 'rest/comfort'), Spanish 'reposo/descanso' (rest/repose), Hindi विश्राम (vishraam, 'rest'), Korean 쉼 (swim, 'rest'), Swahili 'pumziko' (rest). The construct form מִמְּנוּחַ ('from the resting of,' Lamentations 1:3) belongs here as it denotes the abstract concept of rest from which Judah is deprived.

2. resting place (concrete location) A concrete place of settled dwelling or repose, used of a physical location where one can settle and dwell in security. Found in Deuteronomy 28:65 ('no resting place' for the sole of the foot in exile) and Psalm 116:7 ('return to your resting place, O my soul'). While related to the abstract sense of 'rest,' these occurrences emphasize a spatial, locative meaning — a place to which one goes or from which one is excluded. Arabic مَوْضِعًا (mawdi'an, 'a place'), Spanish 'descanso' (rest, but contextually a place), Hindi विश्राम/आराम (vishraam/aaraam), Korean 쉬는 곳 (swineun got, explicitly 'resting place'), Swahili 'mahali pa kupumzika' (place of rest). Korean and Swahili especially distinguish this as a location rather than a state.
