Memuchan, Persian prince and advisor to Ahasuerus
One of the seven princes of Persia and Media who had access to King Ahasuerus (Xerxes) and sat first in the kingdom (Esther 1:14). When Queen Vashti refused the king's summons, Memuchan proposed the decree deposing her and establishing the law that every man should rule in his own house (Esther 1:16-21). His counsel, driven by fear that Vashti's defiance would inspire widespread wifely disobedience, set in motion the events that brought Esther to the throne.
