Mikah (short form of Mikayahu, 'Who is like YHWH?') is a proper name shared by at least seven individuals in the Hebrew Bible across its 33 occurrences. The most extensively narrated is the Ephraimite Micah of Judges 17-18, who established a private shrine with a carved idol and hired a Levite as priest — a story that epitomizes the religious chaos of the pre-monarchic era ('everyone did what was right in his own eyes'). Equally significant is the prophet Micah of Moresheth, whose oracles against Samaria and Jerusalem open the book bearing his name (Mic 1:1) and whose prediction of Jerusalem's destruction was invoked a century later to spare Jeremiah's life (Jer 26:18). Other bearers include a grandson of Jonathan son of Saul (1 Chr 8:34-35; 9:40-41) and several Levitical and courtly figures in Chronicles. The Septuagint renders the name Meichaias.
