Mahlon, son of Elimelech and first husband of Ruth
One of Naomi's two sons who married Moabite women during the family's sojourn in Moab. His early death, along with his brother Chilion's, left Ruth and Orpah widowed and set the stage for Ruth's loyalty to Naomi and eventual marriage to Boaz. His name appears in the genealogical framework that establishes Ruth's legal right to redemption and Boaz's role as kinsman-redeemer (Ruth 4:9-10). Though his life was brief, his death became the hinge point for one of Scripture's most beautiful stories of faithfulness and redemption.
