1. dance, dancing A noun denoting dance or dancing as a communal, joyful activity, often associated with worship and celebration. God turns mourning into dancing (Ps 30:11); Israel is called to praise the LORD with dancing (Ps 149:3; 150:4). In prophetic restoration, the virgin of Israel will go out in the dance of the merrymakers (Jer 31:4, 13). In Lamentations 5:15 it appears in the lament that 'our dancing has been turned to mourning.' All occurrences reflect festive, rhythmic bodily movement as an expression of joy, worship, or communal celebration.
