Mushi, a Levite, son of Merari; ancestor of the Mushite clan within the tribe of Levi.
Mushi was a son of Merari and grandson of Levi, making him the founder of one of the two main Merarite sub-clans (the other being Mahli's). He appears consistently in genealogical lists tracing the Levitical families (Exod 6:19; Num 3:20; 1 Chr 6:19, 47; 23:21, 23; 24:26, 30). The Septuagint renders his name variously as Omousi or Mousi. His descendants served important roles in tabernacle and temple service.
