† מַאְפֵּלְיָה n.f. deep darkness ( = מַאֲפֵל יָהּ according to Thes MV cf. Ct 8:6 שַׁלְהֶבֶתְיָה; but Ew§ 165 b & on Je 2:31 reads מַאְפִּלִיָּה, fem. of [מאפלי], der. from Hiph. Pt.; cf. Sta§ 302 b מַאְפְּלִיָּה; JägerBAS 471 thinks this יָה an enclitic part. of emphasis, & comp. Assyrian)—only אֶרֶץ מ׳ Je 2:31 fig. of י׳ in dealing with his people (‖ מִדְבָּר).
