Libyans, people of North Africa west of Egypt, allied with Egypt and Cush
The Lubim or Libyans were a people inhabiting North Africa west of Egypt, frequently mentioned alongside Put (Somalia/Punt) and Cush (Ethiopia/Nubia) as Egypt's military allies. Chronicles records Libyan forces among the vast armies that Egypt's pharaohs brought against Judah. Nahum lists Libya among the allies who failed to save Thebes from conquest. They are probably the same as the Lehabim in Genesis' Table of Nations, showing a people group descended from Mizraim (Egypt).

Senses
1. sense 1 Libyans appear as military allies in prophetic and historical texts. Shishak invaded Judah with an army including 'Lubim' alongside Sukkiim and Cushites (2Chr 12:3). Asa faced a vast Ethiopian army with 'Lubim' among their forces (2Chr 16:8). Daniel prophesies that the king of the north will control 'the Lubim' along with Egypt and Cushites (Dan 11:43). Nahum reminds Nineveh that even Thebes fell despite her allies including 'Lub' and Put (Nah 3:9). The Septuagint renders it Libues or Libuōn, while Spanish libios, French Libyens, and German variations preserve the ethnic designation.
