Lod (Lydda), a town in Benjamin's territory, modern Ludd near Tel Aviv
Lod was a town built by the Benjamites after the conquest, located about eleven miles southeast of Jaffa on the road to Jerusalem. In the Hellenistic and Roman periods it became known as Lydda, the city where Peter healed Aeneas and where many believed in the Lord. Post-exilic census lists show the town was resettled by returning exiles. Modern Ludd preserves the ancient name and location.

Senses
1. sense 1 Lod appears in genealogical and census contexts. The Benjamite Shemed built 'Lod with its towns' (1Chr 8:12). Two post-exilic census lists record 'the sons of Lod' (meaning its inhabitants): 725 returned with Zerubbabel (Ezra 2:33; Neh 7:37), and the town appears among Benjamite settlements in Nehemiah's time (Neh 11:35). The Septuagint renders it variously as Lōd, Lod, Luddōn, Lydda, showing the evolution toward the Greek form. All modern translations preserve it as Lod, with translators leaving the Hebrew in brackets in some cases.
