Verbo hebreo que significa 'ser o volverse blanco', extendiendose figuradamente a la purificacion moral. En su forma causativa Hifil abarca un rango notable: Dios promete que los pecados 'aunque sean como la grana, se volveran blancos como la nieve' (Is 1:18), y el salmista suplica ser limpiado hasta 'quedar mas blanco que la nieve' (Sal 51:7). Daniel lo emplea para la purificacion escatologica: 'muchos se purificaran y se emblanqueceran' (Dn 11:35; 12:10). Incluso la naturaleza participa: Joel 1:7 describe una plaga de langostas que deja las ramas 'mostrando su blancura'. Las traducciones al espanol 'blanquearon' y 'seran blancos' distinguen nitidamente entre el estado cumplido y el prometido.
