Sorcerers or magicians; practitioners of magic and divination
This masculine plural noun appears only in Jeremiah 27:9, in a list of false advisors the people must not heed. Sorcerers practiced magic arts, divination, and occult manipulation, distinct from (but overlapping with) diviners and false prophets. The Assyrian cognate kaššapu similarly designates practitioners of sorcery. Israel's law prohibited such practices, but their persistent mention suggests ongoing popular consultation of magical specialists.
Sentidos
1. sense 1 — Practitioners of sorcery and magical arts who claimed supernatural knowledge or power. Jeremiah warns against heeding these sorcerers alongside prophets, diviners, and dreamers—all of whom were falsely assuring the people they wouldn't serve Babylon. Spanish 'hechiceros' (sorcerers/enchanters) and the transliterated forms identify these as occult practitioners. Their inclusion in prophetic denunciation shows the temptation to seek guidance from forbidden sources during national crisis. 1×
