Chelubai appears in the Chronicler's genealogy of Judah as a son of Hezron (1 Chronicles 2:9). The same individual is called Caleb in verse 18 and following verses, suggesting Chelubai is simply a variant form of the more familiar name Caleb. The Septuagint manuscripts show considerable variation in rendering the name, reflecting the textual uncertainty. This is not the famous Caleb who spied out the land, but rather his ancestor, an important figure in Judah's tribal lineage.
