Cozbi was a Midianite woman, daughter of Zur, a tribal chief. She appears in the narrative of Israel's apostasy at Peor (Numbers 25). When Zimri brazenly brought her into the camp during a plague sent as divine judgment for idolatry, Phinehas the priest killed them both, ending the plague. Her name and father's status are emphasized to show this was not casual immorality but a deliberate political-religious alliance that threatened covenant faithfulness.
