This name appears in the narrative of David's later battles with Philistine giants, where an aging David nearly falls to this warrior before Abishai rescues him. However, the text shows Ketiv/Qere variation, and many scholars believe it's corrupt. BDB proposes reading "and they dwelt in Gob," moving it to verse 15, which would eliminate the personal name entirely. The uncertainty reflects the textual difficulties in this section of 2 Samuel.
