Senses
1. shoot (arrows) — To shoot arrows or projectiles, used in both Hifil and Qal stems. Includes the archers/shooters (1 Sam 31:3 = 1 Chr 10:3, participial form hammorim, 'the shooters'), the act of shooting (2 Chr 26:15 to shoot with arrows; 1 Sam 31:3 they shot at him), and the consecutive imperfect 'and they shot' (1 Chr 10:3 wayyoru). The Aramaic orthography variant of yarah. All inflectional forms -- participle, infinitive, imperfect, consecutive -- refer to the same core action of shooting projectiles. 6×

2. be watered, be saturated — Hofal passive: to be watered or saturated, describing the outcome of pouring or drenching. Found in Prov 11:25 (he who waters will himself be watered, yoreh). A genuinely different meaning from 'shoot arrows,' deriving from the 'pour/cast' semantic range of the root y-r-h rather than the projectile sense. The passive stem (Hofal) further distinguishes this usage. 1×
