Yir'on: city in the territory of Naphtali, possibly modern Yarun
Yir'on was a fortified city allocated to the tribe of Naphtali during the conquest of Canaan (Joshua 19:38). Modern scholars generally identify it with Yarun, a village in northern Galilee. The name appears in the biblical boundary lists that defined tribal territories, marking the northern frontier of Israelite settlement.

Senses
1. sense 1 A place name designating a city in Naphtali's territorial allotment. The single occurrence in Joshua 19:38 lists it among the fortified cities of the tribe. Archaeological and geographical research suggests identification with the modern site of Yarun in Lebanon. Cross-linguistic glosses preserve the Hebrew name with conjunction ("and Yiron"), indicating its position within a list of boundary markers.
