Jazer — a Transjordanian city in Gilead assigned to the tribe of Gad
A place name for a city east of the Jordan in the tableland of Gilead, originally conquered from the Amorites (Num 21:32) and later apportioned to Gad (Num 32:1, 35; Josh 13:25). It served as a Levitical city (Josh 21:39; 1 Chr 6:66) and administrative center (1 Chr 26:31). The prophets associate Jazer with its fertile vineyards, mourning their devastation alongside those of Moab (Isa 16:8–9; Jer 48:32). David's census route also passed through Jazer (2 Sam 24:5), confirming its regional importance in the Transjordan.
