Conj-w | N-proper-ms  |  4× in 1 sense
Joiakim, 'Yahweh raises up,' a high priest in the post-exilic period, son of Jeshua
A contracted form of the theophoric name Jehoiakim meaning 'Yahweh raises up,' here designating the post-exilic high priest who was the son of Jeshua and father of Eliashib (Neh 12:10, 12, 26). Unlike the more famous King Jehoiakim of Judah, this Joiakim belongs to the priestly genealogy that anchored the restored Jerusalem community. All four occurrences appear in Nehemiah 12's priestly registry.

Senses
1. sense 1 The proper name of a post-exilic high priest, son of Jeshua, recorded in the priestly genealogy of Neh 12. The shortened form יוֹיָקִים (Joiakim) is used in all four occurrences, distinguishing this priest from King Jehoiakim (יְהוֹיָקִים). Spanish renders it 'Joiacim,' while French and German retain the Hebrew form in brackets. Neh 12:10 traces the succession Jeshua → Joiakim → Eliashib, and v. 12 and 26 list the priestly heads who served during his tenure.
