Hepher; Canaanite city with unknown location
Hepher was a Canaanite royal city conquered by Joshua, listed alongside Aphek (Joshua 12:17). It also names a region in Judah mentioned during Solomon's administrative districts (1 Kings 4:10). The exact location remains unknown, though it lay somewhere in the coastal plain or Shephelah. The name may relate to the root חפר (dig, search).

Senses
1. sense 1 Joshua 12:17 lists 'the king of Hepher' among the 31 defeated kings, while 1 Kings 4:10 refers to 'the land of Hepher' as part of Solomon's second district.
