Hanani — personal name meaning 'gracious, my grace'; borne by several priests, prophets, and leaders
The name חֲנָנִי (Chanani) is a shortened form of Hananiah, meaning 'the LORD is gracious.' It identifies at least five distinct individuals. The seer Hanani rebuked King Asa of Judah for relying on Aram rather than on the LORD (2 Chr 16:7) and was imprisoned for it — a powerful example of prophetic boldness meeting royal hostility. His son Jehu ben Hanani prophesied against Baasha of Israel (1 Kgs 16:1, 7) and later against Jehoshaphat (2 Chr 19:2; 20:34). A Levitical musician named Hanani served in David's temple choir (1 Chr 25:4, 25). Nehemiah's brother Hanani brought news of Jerusalem's ruined state (Neh 1:2) and was later appointed co-governor of the city (Neh 7:2). Spanish 'Hanani' preserves the transliteration.
