Bosom, lap, or embrace (of body or garment fold); also the base or bottom ledge of an altar structure
A masculine noun primarily denoting the bosom, lap, or chest area — the intimate space where one carries a child, embraces a spouse, or conceals an object within the fold of a garment. It expresses tenderness when God carries Israel 'in his bosom' and intimacy in Proverbs' warnings about the wife of one's bosom (Prov 5:20). Moses hides his leprous hand 'in his bosom' (Exod 4:6–7), and the lot is cast 'into the bosom' of a garment (Prov 16:33). In Ezekiel's temple vision, the same word takes on an architectural meaning: the base, ledge, or gutter-like recess at the bottom of the altar (Ezek 43:13–17).
1. bosom, lap, embrace The bosom, lap, or chest area as a place of intimacy, protection, and concealment. Used for carrying children (Num 11:12; Isa 40:11), the marital embrace (Prov 5:20; Deut 13:6), hiding objects in the garment fold (Exod 4:6–7; Prov 16:33; 21:14), and as a metaphor for God's intimate care. English 'bosom' and Spanish 'seno' converge on the bodily sense, while the construct 'wife of your bosom' across languages consistently marks spousal intimacy. Covers 34 of 38 occurrences. 34×

2. base, bottom ledge of altar The base, bottom ledge, or gutter-like recess of the altar in Ezekiel's temple vision (Ezek 43:13, 14, 17; also the chariot floor in 1 Kgs 22:35). An architectural extension of the 'hollow/recess' aspect of the bosom concept. English 'base' and Spanish 'fondo/base' clearly distinguish this from the bodily sense. German 'Boden' (floor/bottom) confirms the spatial rather than anatomical reading in these four passages.
