Most prominent is the Israelite king who assassinated Elah and reigned just seven days before Omri's siege drove him to self-immolation (1 Kgs 16:9–20); Jezebel's taunt 'Is it peace, Zimri?' The name also belongs to the Simeonite prince slain by Phinehas at Baal-peor (Num 25:14), a grandson of Judah (1 Chr 2:6), and a Benjamite descendant of Saul (1 Chr 8:36; 9:42).
