Males (collective); a synonym of zakhar used for the male population required at Israel's pilgrimage festivals.
A variant form of the more common zakhar ('male'), found only with possessive suffixes and in legal-cultic contexts. Three occurrences specify that 'all your males' must appear before the Lord at the three annual pilgrimage festivals (Exod 23:17; 34:23; Deut 16:16). The fourth, in the laws of warfare (Deut 20:13), commands the slaying of 'all its males' when a city refuses terms of peace.
