Zaham appears in the genealogy of Rehoboam, one of his sons by Mahalath. The name's derivation from the root meaning 'foul' or 'loathsome' (if that's indeed the etymology) is puzzling—why would parents choose such a name? Perhaps it had a different connotation in that period, or perhaps it's an apotropaic name meant to ward off evil. Second Chronicles preserves it without comment, simply listing Zaham among Rehoboam's numerous offspring.
