Horam — Canaanite king of Gezer who aided Lachish
The king of Gezer who came to aid Lachish during Joshua's conquest of southern Canaan. Unlike the five kings who formed the anti-Gibeonite coalition, Horam appears later in the narrative, attempting to relieve Lachish when Joshua besieged it. His intervention proved futile, as Joshua defeated both him and his army, extending Israel's control over the southern hill country.
Senses
1. sense 1 — All major translations preserve the proper name 'Horam' consistently across languages. Joshua 10:33 records his arrival to help Lachish and his subsequent defeat, though notably Gezer itself was not captured at this time — the city remained unconquered until much later in Israel's history, showing Joshua's campaign had limits even in victory. 1×
