the Harorite — probably textual error for 'the Harodite'
A gentillic adjective designating someone from an otherwise unknown location Haror. The text is almost certainly corrupt, as the parallel passage in 2 Samuel reads 'Harodite' (from Harod). Chronicles apparently preserves a scribal error where the 'd' was misread or miscopied as 'r.' The reference identifies one of David's mighty warriors by hometown.
Senses
1. sense 1 — All translations preserve 'Harorite' with the definite article, but scholarly consensus favors emending to 'Harodite' based on the 2 Samuel 23:25 parallel. No place called Haror is known elsewhere. 1 Chronicles 11:27 lists this as the hometown designation of Shammoth, one of David's elite fighting men, the Thirty. 1×
