Darkon, head of a family of temple servants (Nethinim) who returned from exile
Darkon was the ancestor of a family of Nethinim (temple servants) who returned from Babylonian exile with Zerubbabel. Both Ezra 2:56 and its parallel Nehemiah 7:58 list 'the sons of Darkon' among the returnees. The Nethinim were dedicated to assisting the Levites in temple service, and these genealogical lists preserve the memory of families who maintained their identity and calling through the exile and returned to serve in the rebuilt temple.
Senses
1. sense 1 — The transliterations ('Darkon, Darcón, Darqon') preserve this ancestral name. Both occurrences identify 'the sons/children of Darkon' in lists of Nethinim who returned to Jerusalem (Ezra 2:56, Neh 7:58). These parallel passages record the same historical return, with minor variations typical of parallel accounts. The family maintained its identity through exile, returning to resume temple service—a testament to covenant faithfulness across generations. 2×
