Darío — nombre real persa que llevan Darío Histaspes y 'Darío el Medo' en las Escrituras
La forma hebrea דָּרְיָוֶשׁ reproduce el nombre persa antiguo Dārayavauš ('el que sostiene firmemente el bien'). En Esdras identifica a Darío I Histaspes, bajo cuyo decreto se completó el templo de Jerusalén (Esd 4:24; 5:5-7; 6:1, 12-15). En Daniel nombra al enigmático 'Darío el Medo' que recibe el reino tras la caída de Belsasar (Dn 5:31; 6:1-28). Hageo y Zacarías fechan sus profecías en 'el segundo año de Darío' (Hag 1:1; Zac 1:1). Las traducciones europeas emplean consistentemente 'Darius/Darío'.
