Gath-hepher or Gittah-hepher, hometown of the prophet Jonah in Zebulun's territory
Gath-hepher (also called Gittah-hepher) was a town in Zebulun's tribal allotment, famous as the hometown of the prophet Jonah. The name means 'winepress of digging' or 'winepress of the well.' Located in the Galilee region, it was identified in the nineteenth century with El-Meshhed, about three miles northeast of Nazareth.
