Azufre; mineral combustible asociado con el juicio divino y la destrucción catastrófica
Se refiere al azufre, el mineral amarillo combustible que arde con un humo asfixiante. En las Escrituras aparece casi siempre emparejado con fuego como instrumento del juicio devastador de Dios. El caso paradigmático es Génesis 19:24, donde el SEÑOR hace llover azufre y fuego sobre Sodoma y Gomorra. A partir de ahí se convierte en imagen recurrente de la ira divina: el Salmo 11:6 advierte a los impíos de una lluvia de fuego y azufre, e Isaías 30:33 compara el aliento de Dios con un torrente de azufre.
