Galeed, the name Jacob gave to the witness-heap covenant with Laban
Galeed (meaning 'witness-heap') is the name Jacob gave to the pile of stones erected as a covenant witness between himself and Laban. While Laban called it by the Aramaic equivalent Jegar-sahadutha, Jacob used this Hebrew name. The site marked both a covenant boundary and a memorial, later associated with the region of Gilead.
