Bebai heads a family whose descendants returned from Babylon in two waves: 623 in one count (Ezra 2:11) and 628 in the parallel list (Neh 7:16). Additional members of his family returned with Ezra (Ezra 8:11), and some were among those who had married foreign wives (Ezra 10:28). A Bebai also appears as a signatory to Nehemiah's covenant (Neh 10:16). The German rendering 'in-in-mir' appears to be a mistranslation, while English and Spanish correctly transliterate the name as Bebai/Bevai.
