Ornan -- the Jebusite who owned the threshing floor David purchased as the site for the future temple
Ornan (Hebrew אׇרְנָן) is the Jebusite who owned the threshing floor on Mount Moriah that David purchased after the plague was stayed by the angel of the LORD (1 Chr 21:15-28). This site became the location of Solomon's temple (2 Chr 3:1). Ornan is called Araunah (אֲרַוְנָה) in the parallel account of 2 Samuel 24:16-24, reflecting either dialectal variation or a different transcription tradition. The Chronicles narrative records that Ornan was threshing wheat when the angel appeared, that he offered the site freely, and that David insisted on paying full price -- six hundred shekels of gold (1 Chr 21:22-25). All twelve occurrences in Chronicles refer to the same individual.
