Araunah — a Jebusite landowner whose threshing floor David purchased as the site for the future Jerusalem temple
Araunah (אֲרַוְנָה) was a Jebusite resident of Jerusalem whose threshing floor on Mount Moriah became one of the most theologically significant pieces of real estate in Scripture. When a plague struck Israel following David's census, the angel of the LORD halted at Araunah's threshing floor (2 Sam 24:16). The prophet Gad instructed David to build an altar there, and Araunah generously offered his oxen, threshing sledges, and the floor itself as a gift — but David insisted on paying the full price, declaring 'I will not offer burnt offerings to the LORD my God that cost me nothing' (2 Sam 24:24). This site became the location of Solomon's temple (2 Chr 3:1). The name appears as Ornan (אָרְנָן) in Chronicles.

Senses
1. Araunah A Jebusite inhabitant of Jerusalem who owned the threshing floor on Mount Moriah where the angel of the LORD stopped the plague during David's census (2 Sam 24:16-18). Araunah offered his threshing floor, oxen, and equipment as a free gift for sacrifice, but David purchased them at full price — fifty shekels of silver (2 Sam 24:20-24) — establishing the principle that true worship requires personal cost. This site became the location of Solomon's temple (2 Chr 3:1). The name appears as Ornan (אָרְנָן) in 1 Chronicles 21:15-28. Spanish 'Arauna' and English 'Araunah' both transliterate the name. 11×
