Abihu -- son of Aaron, consumed by divine fire for offering unauthorized incense before the LORD
Abihu (Hebrew אֲבִיהוּא, 'he is my father') was the second son of Aaron the high priest and Elisheba (Exod 6:23). He was among those who ascended Sinai and beheld the God of Israel (Exod 24:1, 9), and he was consecrated for priestly service alongside his father and brothers (Exod 28:1). His death, together with his brother Nadab, for offering 'strange fire' (esh zarah) before the LORD (Lev 10:1-2) became one of the Old Testament's most sobering warnings about the holiness demanded in worship. The incident is recalled repeatedly in Numbers and 1 Chronicles as a paradigm of priestly accountability. All twelve occurrences refer to the same individual.
