In Numbers 11:5, the people complain in the wilderness, nostalgically recalling the foods they ate freely in Egypt: 'We remember the fish we ate in Egypt that cost nothing, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions, and the garlic.' This list represents the variety and abundance they associate with their former captivity, now idealized in contrast to manna's monotony.
