Mentiroso — el que habla falsedad; aplicado al diablo, a los seres humanos e incluso hipotéticamente a Dios. El sustantivo ψεύστης (pseustēs) significa 'mentiroso', aquel que habitual o característicamente dice lo que es falso. Jesús llama al diablo 'mentiroso y padre de la mentira' (Jn 8:44), estableciendo a Satanás como el mentiroso arquetípico. En el mismo discurso, Jesús advierte que cualquiera que niegue conocer a Dios 'es mentiroso' (Jn 8:55). Pablo cita la máxima provocadora 'sea Dios veraz y todo hombre mentiroso' (Ro 3:4). Las epístolas juaninas desarrollan el concepto: quien dice conocer a Dios pero desobedece 'es mentiroso' (1 Jn 1:10; 2:4, 22; 4:20; 5:10).
