φῠτ-εία G5451
plant, planting, something planted
This word can refer either to the act of planting or to the plant itself, what has been planted. Jesus uses it metaphorically in Matthew when responding to the Pharisees' criticism of his disciples: 'Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.' The agricultural imagery works spiritually to distinguish authentic disciples (planted by God) from false religious traditions (planted by human authority). In classical Greek the word could mean plantation, plant, or the process of planting, and Jesus draws on this agricultural familiarity to make a point about divine versus human origins.
Sentidos
1. sense 1 — A plant or something planted, used metaphorically by Jesus. In Matthew 15:13, responding to the Pharisees' offense at his teaching, Jesus declares: 'Every plant (phyteia) which my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.' The agricultural metaphor distinguishes God's authentic work from human religious traditions. The multilingual glosses—Spanish 'planta,' French 'plantation,' English 'plant'—preserve the concrete image that Jesus employs for spiritual discernment. This is the word's only New Testament occurrence. 1×
