Troas (city)

Senses
1. Troas (city) The proper noun referring to the port city of Alexandria Troas in the Roman province of Asia (modern northwest Turkey), an important stop on Paul's missionary journeys. All six NT occurrences name the same geographical entity. Cross-linguistic evidence is uniform: Spanish 'Troas,' Hindi 'troas/troaas,' Arabic 'Tarwas,' Korean 'deuroa,' Swahili 'Troa.' The two original clusters differ only in minor case variation (AFS/GFS/DFS vs DFS) and trivial transliteration differences in some languages. As a proper noun, there is no semantic polysemy—every occurrence refers to the same city where Paul received the Macedonian vision (Acts 16:8-11) and later preached (Acts 20:5-6; 2 Cor 2:12; 2 Tim 4:13).
