This strengthened inferential particle draws a conclusion from what precedes. It's more emphatic than simple 'therefore,' carrying the sense of 'for that very reason' or 'well then.' Paul uses it in 1 Thessalonians to connect the Holy Spirit's indwelling with the serious consequences of rejecting sexual purity. Hebrews employs it to draw the conclusion that since we're surrounded by witnesses, we should run our race with endurance.
