honor, esteem, respect; price, monetary value, proceeds

Senses
1. honor, esteem, respect Worth, value, or esteem ascribed to a person, office, or thing; the social recognition and respect due to someone. This is the primary and most frequent sense of time in the NT. Used of honor due to God (1 Tim 1:17, 6:16 -- 'to Him be honor'), honor accorded to persons in the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:23-24 -- members given more 'honor'), honor shown to fellow believers (Rom 12:10 -- 'outdo one another in honor'), honor given to governing authorities (Rom 13:7 -- 'honor to whom honor'), honor for prophets (John 4:44 -- 'a prophet has no honor'), honor for elders (1 Tim 5:17 -- 'double honor'), honor for the body/vessel (1 Thess 4:4, Col 2:23 -- 'in honor'), and honors bestowed as gifts of gratitude (Acts 28:10 -- timais, 'with many honors'). Multilingual glosses converge on honor/respect: Arabic karama/ikram, Spanish honra/honor, French honneur, German Ehre, Hebrew kavod/yeqar, Korean jon-gwi/jon-gyeong, Hindi aadar/sammaan. 33×

2. price, monetary value, proceeds The monetary value or purchase price of something; the sum paid or received in a commercial transaction. This sense is clearly distinguished from 'honor' by the multilingual gloss signatures: Arabic thaman (not karama), Spanish precio (not honra), Hebrew mechir (not kavod), Korean gabs (not jon-gwi), Hindi daam (not aadar). Used of the 'price' of the one valued by Israel (Matt 27:6, 9 -- time/timen, the thirty pieces of silver as 'the price of him on whom a price was set'), the price of property withheld (Acts 5:2-3 -- times, Ananias keeping back part of 'the price'), the purchase price of a tomb (Acts 7:16 -- times, bought 'for a price of silver'), the price by which believers were bought (1 Cor 6:20, 7:23 -- times, 'you were bought with a price'), and the monetary value of burned magic books (Acts 19:19 -- timas, they counted up 'the prices' totaling fifty thousand pieces of silver). Also includes Acts 4:34 timas, the 'proceeds' of sold lands laid at the apostles' feet.
