Talitha, Aramaic word meaning 'little girl' or 'lamb'; used by Jesus in Mark 5:41
This is not a Greek word but an Aramaic term meaning 'little girl' or 'lamb' (from Hebrew ṭāleh). Jesus uses it when raising Jairus' daughter, saying 'Talitha koum' (Little girl, arise). Mark preserves the original Aramaic, then translates it, giving readers both the intimate sound of Jesus' voice and its meaning. All translations simply transliterate 'Talitha,' preserving the tenderness of the moment. This is linguistic witness to Jesus' actual words, an echo of his compassionate address to the child.

Senses
1. sense 1 Found only in Mark 5:41 in Jesus' Aramaic command to the dead girl: 'Talitha koum!' (Little girl, I say to you, arise!). Mark preserves the Aramaic, then provides Greek translation. Universal transliteration across languages shows recognition that this is Jesus' actual word, not to be replaced. The Aramaic preserves both tenderness (little girl/lamb) and the historical moment of the miracle.
