Oscurecer, entenebrecer; privar de luz u ofuscar, ya sea en sentido literal o figurado
Verbo que significa hacer oscuro, ofuscar o cegar. Aparece en Efesios 4:18 para describir a los gentiles cuyo entendimiento ha sido entenebrecido, y dos veces en Apocalipsis retratando oscurecimientos cósmicos: el sol y el aire oscurecidos por humo (9:2) y un reino sumido en tinieblas (16:10). Las formas pasivas («siendo oscurecido», «habiendo sido oscurecido») sugieren tanto proceso como resultado: la luz falla, la visión se apaga, la comprensión se desvanece. Los usos clásicos incluyen cegar, aturdir o causar vértigo, todos vinculados a la pérdida de claridad u orientación.
