2. watch out for, be on guard — To watch out for, be vigilant against, or take heed; carries a warning or cautionary nuance. In Rom 16:17 Paul exhorts believers 'to watch out for' (skopein) those who cause divisions; in Phil 3:17 they should 'observe' (skopeite) those who walk according to the apostolic pattern (as models to follow or pitfalls to avoid); in Lk 11:35 Jesus warns 'look' (skopei) whether the light in you is not darkness.
